Dedicated Netscreen Firewalls
We can help you secure your dedicated server with a dedicated firewall. Our default implementation of a dedicated Netscreen SSG firewall includes Untrusted, Trusted, and DMZ zones in a "Layer 2" or "Transparent" mode. This allows you to add or remove this service from your dedicated server service with us at any time without needing to change IP addresses on your servers. We can also implement the dedicated firewalls in standard Layer 3 mode (route or NAT). The Netscreen SSG-5 Firewall can support up to 8,000 concurrent sessions to your servers, up to 200 rules, unlimited users, and 90Mbps (typical) to 160Mbps (max) of traffic at up to 30,000 packets per second. Dedicated Firewall service is available as Managed Firewall or Unmanaged Firewall service.
Unmanaged Dedicated Firewall - If you manage the firewall, we will install the firewall in-line with your servers, with a base configuration. We will not maintain a log in to the system. If you ever need help with the configuration or administration of the firewall, we will be happy to help at our standard professional services rate. Unmanaged Dedicated Firewall service with Netscreen SSG-5 is $75/mo (plus $99 setup).
Managed Dedicated Firewall - We will ask you questions about your operations and uses of your servers and develop a proposed ruleset. You will review and approve the ruleset. We will install the firewall in-line with your servers, with the approved ruleset configuration. We will handle all future rule changes and firmware updates. We will log all traffic sessions to our log server and retain the log data for 30 days. Log research, investigations and VPN setup will be billed at professional services rates. Managed Dedicated Firewall service with Netscreen SSG-5 is $150/mo (plus $150 setup)
Load-Balancing Services
We can load-balance your inbound connections to between 2 and 35 of your dedicated servers hosted with M5Hosting. A typical implementation of load-balancing is to balancing inbound connections to a web site to two servers. Those two web servers can connect to one or more database servers. The length of time that each visitor is directed to the same web server is adjustable to match the length of time your application keeps sessions alive.
Load-Balancing can be used for inbound web site visits, inbound email, or really any TCP or UDP protocol for your own applications. If a server in your cluster fails or is taken off-line, the load balancer will automatically direct traffic to the remaining servers in your cluster within 15 seconds. Load balancing service starts at $20 per "real" server per month. Some configurations or heavily used sites may cost more.
CDP Backup Services
Our enhanced "CDP" backup services speeds backups and recovery of single files, filesystems, or even the whole server from "bare-metal".
The CDP Solution enables disk-based data protection and disaster recovery for servers running Linux and Windows. CDP protects disk volume data by replicating your disk and periodically re-synchronizing the image over the network, storing point-in-time snap shots on the backup storage server.
CDP works by reading your hard disk volumes at the sector level, bypassing the file system for the ultimate in performance and recovery. This disk sector synchronization is performed while the server is online and provides no interruption to other I/O requests even on a busy server. By reading the disk at the lowest possible level, point-in-time recovery images contain your files and all the formatting, partition tables, and volume configuration needed for complete and near-instant disaster recovery.
You can restore a single file, a directory, or whole filesystem. You can also restore the entire machine from bare-metal... without needing to reinstall the OS, then the applications and finally the data. An agent is available for MySQL, allowing backups of your MySQL databases while the are running.
This service is highly customizable. You can have your own dedicated backup server at an alternate data center facility of ours with hundreds of snapshots per day, or just use our local backup server up to four snapshots per day. Due to the way the backups are actually checkpoints against a synchronized volume snapshots, 50 GB is plenty to backup up 40 GB of data if it is relatively static, with compression you can backup even more with the same 50 GB space. Somewhat more disk space will be used if the data is highly dynamic. Keep as many checkpoints (restore points) as you want.
The CDP Backup Service starts at $50 per month which includes the Linux OS agent, MySQL database agent, and 50GB of storage. Additional storage is $30/mo for each additional 100GB.
