    May 4, 2011
SAN DIEGO (April 26, 2010)—M5 Hosting, a worldwide leader in customized, high performance Linux and BSD dedicated server hosting solutions, announced today it has received the highest-possible rating of A+ from the Better Business Bureau of San Diego. The company has a perfect record with the BBB, with no customer complaints filed to date.

The Better Business Bureau maintains strict accreditation standards, including requiring companies to commit to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints, advertise honestly, tell the truth, be transparent in business operations, honor promises, be responsive, safeguard privacy, and embody integrity. A complete list of accreditation standards is available at http://www.bbb.org/us/bbb-accreditation-standards.

“Our business is built on word-of-mouth referrals, and our growth has always been driven by satisfied customers. Receiving a perfect rating from the Better Business Bureau is a testament to how we have done business for years – with honesty, integrity, and authentic capability,” said Michael J. McCafferty, principal of M5 Hosting.

Last week, M5 Hosting announced a deployment of APC switched power on all server racks, allowing one-click power-cycling on servers without the need for an on-site technician to physically reboot the server. M5 Hosting also used the upgrade as an opportunity to perform a physical health check on each server.

  • M5 Hosting Deploys APC Switched Power for All Customers

    April 26, 2011
SAN DIEGO (April 26, 2010)—M5 Hosting a worldwide leader in customized, high performance Linux and BSD dedicated server hosting solutions, announced today it has completed a deployment of APC switched power on all server racks.

Switched power outlets allow for power-cycling of customer servers without the need for an on-site technician to physically go to the server. M5 Hosting support personnel and M5 Hosting customers can both reboot a customer server using a secure web-based interface, saving precious time.

Since the upgrade required each customer’s server to be physically moved a new rack equipped with switched power outlets, the deployment has taken M5 Hosting several months. The company worked with customers to schedule a convenient time to complete the upgrade, as customers typically experienced up to 5 minutes of downtime during an off-peak time selected by the customer.

"All of our customers servers located in racks equipped with APC switched-power systems are able to power cycle their servers with a click of a button in our customer portal. This speeds response times when our customers need help. With this technology, a human does not need to walk over to a rack, unlock and open the door, locate the server just to press a button. It saves time and money, and this is a significant upgrade,” said Michael J. McCafferty, principal of M5 Hosting.

M5 Hosting is also using the upgrade as an opportunity to perform a physical health check on each server. Technicians are completing RAM upgrades and inspecting and replacing broken system fans, and check RAID array integrity.

Last week, M5 Hosting upgraded all customer data transfer allocations by at least 500 percent.

M5 Hosting maintains a high-performance, route optimized network. The network features redundant carrier class Cisco 6509 routers with the powerful SUP720-3BXL engines and maximum memory to handle the full and ever-expanding global route table. Like all multi-homed provider networks, M5 Hosting utilizes BGP for fault-tolerant routing over multiple Internet connections. The network also relies on multiple Gigabit connections to Tier-1 carriers and direct peering with over 100 other networks.

  • M5 Hosting Boosts Monthly Data Transfer Allocations by 500 Percent

    April 18, 2011
SAN DIEGO (April 18, 2011)—M5 Hosting, a worldwide leader in customized, high performance Linux and BSD dedicated server hosting solutions, announced today it is boosting all customer data transfer allocations by up to 500 percent, a major upgrade designed to ensure customers have the resources they need to grow and prosper online.

The upgrades universally apply to all customers under existing dedicated servers and colocation agreements with 250GB or 350GB per month data transfer. Service plans that previously offered 250GB per month of transfer now enjoy 1.5TB per month of transfer, and service plans that previously offered 350GB per month of transfer now include 2TB per month of transfer. All new service plans include at least 1.5TB per month of data transfer.

“As a result of major upgrades to our network and new agreements with network carriers, we are able to offer substantially more data transfer to our customers for the same price. These upgrades are effective immediately, and come at absolutely no charge and no decrease in quality,” said Michael J. McCafferty, principal of M5 Hosting. “We understand that in these economic times, many our customers need to do more with less – not the same with less, not less with less, but more with less.”

The network also utilizes multiple Gigabit connections to Tier-1 carriers and direct peering with over 100 other networks.

Earlier this year, M5 Hosting began operations in its second data center facility, an 80,000 square-foot purpose-built data center located in the San Diego Spectrum area of San Diego, California. Originally built to support a large defense contractor and its government contracts, the facility has recently been updated with the latest in highly-efficient power and cooling systems. M5 Hosting also introduced a data backup service, powered by R1Soft.

  • M5 Hosting Implements Route Optimization Technology to Boost Network Speeds and Attract Global Clients

    April 13, 2011
SAN DIEGO (April 13, 2011)—M5 Hosting, a worldwide leader in customized, high performance Linux and BSD dedicated server hosting solutions, announced today it has completed implementation of the Internap® Flow Control Platform, a route optimization technology designed to dramatically boost network performance by choosing the optimal path for outgoing network traffic.

Traditionally, most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have utilized the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) to manage external network traffic. Although BGP is a fundamental technology for the fault-tolerance of the Internet, it chooses outgoing network paths based on the number of hops traffic must make before it reaches its destination, in an attempt to find the shortest possible path.

The Internap® Flow Control Platform, however, uses sophisticated, real-time performance metrics to determine the fastest path for the traffic, which is often not the same as the shortest path. Short paths sometimes experience higher latency or packet loss as a result of periodic network congestion or other causes.

M5 Hosting can also use The Internap® Flow Control Platform to dynamically measure the end-to-end performance of hosted applications and automatically implement network changes based on those measures. The entire platform is automated, which allows fast re-routing of traffic around major network outages and 24/7 proactive performance monitoring.

Additionally, the platform can compare paths and identify equally-performing network paths from separate transit providers. In the event of a similarity, the lower-cost provider would automatically be chosen. It creates instant cost savings that do not affect service quality in any way.

“Network performance optimization is a key strategic advantage that will enable us to deliver faster performance at a lower cost. It’s a prime example of using next-generation technologies to solve a challenge all service providers with a global reach struggle with,” said Michael J. McCafferty, president of M5 Hosting. “With this technology, we’ve been able to significantly improve worldwide network performance while still reducing transit costs. It’s the best of both worlds, and our customers get the biggest benefit.”

The new route optimization technology will also make M5 Hosting a more attractive choice for customers with users in Asia and South America, who often experience much higher latency to network which do not employ this type of technology.

SAN DIEGO – M5 Hosting, a worldwide leader in customized, high performance Linux and BSD dedicated server hosting solutions, announced today it has begun operations at its new data center at 9305 Lightwave Ave. in San Diego. It is the company’s second data center facility.

By adding the second facility, M5 Hosting is able to introduce a variety of important new services, including off-site data backup and multi-location redundancy for dedicated server customers. M5 Hosting has grown by 100% or more each year since its founding in 2001.

“Many of our fast-growing customers are asking for services that require multiple facilities, such as off-site backups, multi-site redundancy, disaster recovery sites, and more. We also need additional space to keep growing at our current rate and to keep delivering the sort of customer-focused flexible services we have been delivering for 9 years now,” said Michael J. The new facility is an 80,000 square-foot purpose-built data center located in the San Diego Spectrum area of San Diego, California. • M5 Hosting Adds Hourly Professional Services for Web Hosting Clients

    March 11, 2010
SAN DIEGO - M5 Hosting, a worldwide leader in customized, high performance Linux and BSD dedicated server hosting solutions, today introduced professional systems administration and server management services, allowing businesses to quickly access top system administrators for sophisticated management tasks and periodic specialized technical assistance.

Although all M5 Hosting dedicated servers are customer-managed (with no built-in management services), many customers need periodic assistance in performing difficult or specialized management tasks, such as major upgrades or complicated platform configuration. Since these needs are infrequent, it can be inefficient for a small company or project to hire system administrators willing and capable to complete these specialized tasks.

M5 Hosting has for several years maintained, upgraded, secured and tuned its own systems, and has occasionally helped customers with particularly challenging issues. With today's announcement, however, these services are now broader in scope and are available on an hourly basis to all M5 Hosting customers, regardless of their size.

Although services can be extensively customized, key services now offered include server performance tuning, security hardening, and installation and configuration of 3rd party software.

"We recognize that access to highly-capable and experienced systems administrators is an important business need for our customers. We don't hire entry-level systems administrators we only hire the best. We believe it is far more efficient to have fewer, highly capable people than to have a building full of 'newbies.' Experienced professionals get right to the heart of the issue and get things done. Our customers appreciate it," said Michael J. McCafferty, principal of M5 Hosting.

M5 Hosting Professional Services are provided by Linux systems administrators with between 5 years and 15 years of professional experience. Network engineers boast Cisco's CCNP or CCIE certifications and have a minimum of 5 years professional experience.
